The Little Mermaid - March 09 - March 10, 2018

Medway High School

 Director's Notes

Welcome to Medway High School's production of Disney's The Little Mermaid! I am so glad you could join us for a wonderful night of theatre. The Little Mermaid is probably my favorite Disney movie and certainly my favorite Broadway adaptation of a Disney movie. Amongst the vibrant colors, lights, and music, there are touching stories of a father who wants nothing more than to keep his daughter safe, a prince caught between his passion and his duty, and a young girl trying to find her place and her voice (both figuratively and literally) in the world. It has been such an immense pleasure to spend the past few months Under the Sea with a wonderful cast and crew, and I hope we can bring you as much joy as this story has brought us.

When it comes to producing a Disney show, it truly takes a village to get it off the ground. No role is too small and no task is too minor to create *Disney Magic.* I would like to thank the following people from the bottom of my heart:

Thank you to Medway Public Schools Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Armand Pires and Ms. Gabrielle Abrams, Medway High School Principal and Deans, Mr. Timothy McCarron, Mr. David List, and Mrs. Dot Pearl, our lovely MHS Secretaries Mrs. Lynda Barry, Mrs. Ellen Russell & Mrs. Wanda MacLean, and the wonderful MHS janitorial staff.

Thank you to our booster organization, the Medway Friends of Performing Arts, for your generous donation and continuous support.

Thank you to the theatre departments at Dover Sherborn High School, Whitinsville Christian School, and Newfound Regional High School, as well as the Franklin Performing Arts Company for opening your costume closets to us.

Thank you to Julie Dennehy, Jenny Kealey, and Sue Olson for organizing ticket sales and advertising.

Thank you to our photographers extraordinaire, Colleen Barber and Tim Rice, for the posters, headshots, and rehearsal photos. We will treasure them forever.

Thank you to Tom Mele for coming back to your alma mater to give our production the technical pizzaz it needed.

Thank you to the ENTIRE Bergeron family for being the powerhouse family that you are. Carmel, for contributing over thirty costumes to our production, and Dan and Aoife for building our BEAUTIFUL sets from my half-baked ideas. All of your work is so much more than I could have ever hoped for.

Thank you, as always, to the magical Jenny Kealey for being a costuming wizard. How you managed to supervise the creation of over twenty sea-creature costumes, build almost all of Ariel and Ursula's costumes, and come through with last minute details and solutions time and time again, all with a smile on your face, is truly a wonder.

Thank you to Jesse Alling and Brenna Kenney for being the best creative teammates that a director could ask for. You have done truly spectacular work with our merry band of players, and I am honored to call you both colleagues and friends. Cheers to the next one!

Finally endless thanks to my beautiful, wacky, creative, driven, CRAZY talented cast and crew. You put your faith in me to guide you through two months of rehearsals, but this production wouldn't be anywhere near as wonderful as it is without your unfaltering commitment to our art and to each other. You have done a marvelous job bringing this story to life, and I could not be more proud of each and every one of you. Thank you for giving me a theatre experience I will never forget.

Enjoy the show!
