DIRECTORS’ NOTE
Rodgers and Hammerstein’s STATE FAIR was originally written as a musical for the big screen in 1945 and won the Academy Award for best song (It Might As Well Be Spring). In 1962, another film version was released starring Ann-Margret and Pat Boone. It took 33 more years for this classic story to hit the Broadway stage (1995) starring John Davidson. Set against the colorful backdrop of the American heartland, STATE FAIR delivers nostalgia, classic songs and warm-hearted family entertainment!
Selecting our musical each year is a challenge, and we spend many months considering titles until we find the one that best fits our choir students. We also consider our community - and Meade County loves to go to the fair! The cast has worked tirelessly to bring you the story of the Frake family and their adventure at the Iowa State Fair. Putting on a musical is a team effort and we appreciate all who have helped us along the way! We are especially grateful for the creative contributions of Jennifer Shelton, Louis Latondress, Haylie Rebilas, Cathy Smith, and Shirley Jones!
We hope that this experience will be a favorite high school memory for our graduating seniors! We will miss their leadership, talent and dedication to excellence. We hope our underclassmen and our younger cast members come away from this experience excited about next year’s possibilities!
Speaking of future possibilities - be sure to take note of our summer musical theatre camp for students who have completed grades 1-8! It will be the week of June 3, and there is information in the program. Thank you for attending this evening and supporting MCHS Chorus. We hope you enjoy your trip to the STATE FAIR!
