Notes from the Director

Hello and welcome to our show of "The Little Mermaid"! We are so glad you could join us this evening. Our entire cast have put their best feet forward and will deliver a performance you won't soon forget.

We have an amazing Production Team that has helped bring this production to life, utilizing the talents of set construction, art, puppet construction, costume design, dance training (African- Caribbean, Hula, Tap, Fosse) acrobatics, musical direction, lighting effects, sound, and vision. It has been my pleasure working with such a great (and fun!) group of people.

Our cast is dedicated and hardworking, and always striving to better themselves. It's amazing to watch how much they learn and grow with each performance from the first day of rehearsal to show time. They are having a great time onstage and it shows!

I grew up in the 80's when Disney's "Little Mermaid" first came out, and my Mother tells me that I watched it every day when I came home from Kindergarten for a year. It's near and dear to my heart, and a story that is challenging to bring to the stage and do it justice. We are excited to share with you the magic we have brought to the stage!

Best Regards,

Notes from the Choreographer

“Dancing is a language that is felt instead of heard,” Prince Eric reminds us in this Production of The Little Mermaid. As the movement specialist on the production team, I couldn’t agree more! For the past six weeks the performers of our show have truly stretched themselves as movers and actors. My intent for this show was to utilize our dancers to help establish the time and ambience of the story that is so deeply based on movement, and what I have come up with is a spectacle that pulls from a variety of dance backgrounds. Our show runs the gamut of dance styles and variation, from old art forms like hula and aerial work, to your standard favorites like tap and jazz, and as this marks my first year at MTC, I couldn’t be more thrilled to share with you the challenges I set before these young actors, and how ferociously they continue to take them on. I am so pleased for you to sit back and see everything we have to “say” to you. Enjoy!
