Carol Nelson
Orchestra Conductor
In her 38th year at McCallum High School, Carol Nelson is Director of Bands. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UT Austin, where she was a graduate assistant for the Longhorn Band. She also received her trumpet performance certificate from UT Austin. Under her direction, the McCallum High School Band has been a consistent UIL Sweepstakes winner. Among her many honors, Ms. Nelson has been awarded the University Interscholastic League’s Denius Excellence Award for the state of Texas, Teacher of the Year at McCallum High School, the “M” Award at McCallum High School, and the Texas Bandmasters Association Meritorius Award for 2011. Ms. Nelson loves musicals and loves McCallum High School! She has conducted over 45 musicals in her career and has received several B. Iden Payne “Best Musical Direction” nominations.

Sarah Hirsch Mainwaring
Musical Director
Sarah Hirsch Mainwaring holds a B.A. in music from Yale University and an M.F.A. from NYU’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program. Favorite music-directing credits include Catch Me if You Can(McCallum), Me and My Girl (McCallum), Company (Nittany Theatre at the Barn), Parade (FUSE Productions), and See What I Wanna See(Yale Cabaret). Sarah has written eight full-length musicals. Damascus Square received a production in New Jersey in 2015, starring Richard Blake (Jersey Boys) and Bradley Dean (A Little Night Music), and Usher won the Outstanding Musical Award at the 2008 New York International Fringe Festival, and received an Equity reading in 2014, starring Lucas Steele (Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812). Sarah is thrilled to music-direct West Side Story, and thanks the cast, crew, and orchestra for an incredible experience.

Molly Leach
Assistant Musical Director
Molly is a senior vocal major with a musical theatre certificate. She has enjoyed working alongside Mrs. Mainwaring and Jon on such a difficult and well known musical score. She wanted to thank the cast and crew for all their hard work in creating such an amazing production, and hopes you enjoy the show!
