Dear Marshalltown Community Theatre Patrons,
Welcome to our 2023-2024 season!
I would like to start with a bit of Marshalltown Community Theatre (MCT) history and reflect on our past, present, and future. In 1932, MCT was founded with a troupe of actors who performed at the old Odeon Theater downtown and in Marshalltown High School Auditorium, now known as Miller Middle School Auditorium. Thus, starting with our 2021-2022 season, MCT has returned to one of those venues for several of our productions!
With the arts in mind, that troupe of actors made the commitment to MCT with the following aspiring words: “Our Community Theatre-born of the desire for expression in the realm of the theatre- it seeks to embrace the endeavors of all its members according to their individual interests. Its purpose is to foster the arts of writing, acting, designing, music and dancing as they are found in the theatre.
It dedicates itself as a medium through which the people of this community may find the opportunity for participation in the artistic achievements for which it is striving. It is a community enterprise. It was conceived by, and is dedicated to, our interest in the combined arts of the theatre. It will live only as long as our interest in these things endures. It is first, last, and foremost – OUR Community Theatre.”
MCT has accomplished much in the 9 decades from our start in 1932 to now. Since 2020 alone, we have faced unexpected challenges with grace, strived in our creativity, and persevered to uphold our presence in Marshalltown. Above all, we are hopeful to find a permanent home in the future and have been exploring our prospects. In the meantime, MCT is truly grateful and thrilled to be able to partner again with The Iowa Veterans Home, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and Marshalltown Community School District during our current season. As mentioned more than once in our history, MCT has valued our partner’s “borrowed facilities” to review, rehearse, and produce live theater.
As always, we appreciate your continued support of “OUR Community Theatre!” Plus, we are beyond excited to be offering season tickets to patrons again! They are available at Lowe’s Flowers, Hellberg’s Jewelers, and online at https://marshalltowncommunitytheatre.org/buy-tickets/.
If you have any questions, would like to be involved with any aspect of our seasons and/or productions, and/or want to be added to our email list, please contact us at mctcommunitytheatre@gmail.com.
Kindest regards,
Lisa Naig, President
