 End Notes

Note From the Director

As a little boy I became infatuated with movies and television characters. My mother asked me what I wanted to be when I grow up. I said I wanted to be Superman. When she informed me that he was not a real person but instead an actor, I said “Well then I want to be an actor.” In 7th grade I got to be in my first musical production and from there I realized that the magic of theatre would always be a part of my life. Each production I have been a part of has taught me life lessons that changed and shaped my perspective on life. This production has lots of great lessons that have become my mantra.

Life can be full of choppy seas and waves of difficulty. But if you just keep swimming and move your tail then everything will be okay. As a director I have learned that this job is all about seeing problems not as difficulties but instead as challenges meant to shape you and help you grow. Once you master the art of go with the flow you can be like water and fit into any container you need to.

As a father of two I have learned that raising sons and daughters is like surfing the mighty waters. Only through hard work, focus, selflessness, and dedication can you earn the title of One dedicated father. This show was the first play my daughter every saw more than 10 years ago. Now that my son will get to see it at roughly the same age his sister was when she saw it, I recognize the signs and cycles of life that help us reflect on how far we have come and where we are meant to go.

To my cast and crew: I am so unbelievably proud of you all! We have accomplished so much in such a short amount of time. Your hard work and dedication has and will continue to pay off. You have begun a legacy here at Mae C. Jemison that you will one day look back on with pride. You have literally poured your blood, sweat and tears into this production to create the magic of theatre for all of northwest Huntsville. My dream was to bring live theatre to the northwest side of town where I was born and raised. Thank you for making my dream come true and remember fish are friends not food.

 Sincerely,

Jameel Lewis
