ONCE ON THIS ISLAND is a unique musical that is so full of power, magic, and emotion. It has evolved dynamically throughout the production process. Our goal was to create an eclectic blend of serious themes, and heart wrenching emotion, inter-mixed with lively song and dance - showing the depth of the culture that the show is meant to reflect. The musical is written in a storytelling style and spans the time period of five generations leaving room for flexible casting and creative interpretation.
From the technical components of lights and sound, to choreography, students have stepped into leadership roles to create the magic that you see on stage before you. Our students bravely embarked upon this show with open minds and willing to learn new things. They have shared their ideas and vision and together we have made this show through a team effort. Many of our actors are in a primary role for the first time, using microphones for the first time, and for some this is their first show. The growth I have witnessed in the process of creating this show has been inspiring. Each and every student involved improved in their technical, vocal, acting, and creative abilities and has learned to work as a bonded group. I am truly proud of all of them.
