Every year I have a different connection with the particular show we are doing. Although I have seen Sister Act many times, usually as a judge for competition, I never connected to it other than it being such a fun show with great music. While working on the show I discovered a closer connection. Deloris is a young woman who will do anything to become a star, but her life is changed by circumstance and she is thrusted into a community she never expected to belong to, which became for her, sisterhood. I always talk about the theatre community when I teach and how every production has it's own journey and will forever be with the cast , crew, and creative team forever. Relationships are formed and you will never forget that particular journey you took together to bring that particular show to life. So it is very much a "sisterhood" which is really a community supporting each other. We all have "sisterhoods" in our life, be it family, friends, work and I believe that is why people love this show! Somehow, whether we realize it or not, we recognize that sisterhood that Deloris finds with the nuns. We recognize the way the nuns stand up for her against the gangsters and support her even when they realize she is not a nun herself. It is the bond that they developed for each other that makes this show so special. So I ask, invite all of you here to join our theatre "sisterhood" for a few hours and forget all your outside worries, stresses, and problems and get lost in this community.
