Cats - April 28 - April 30, 2016

Liberty High School

 End Notes

Community Outreach for our Production

Our crew and cast decided to donate handmade pillows stuffed with some of our extra yarn to the Humane Society for their dogs and cats. In addition, our cast will come around during intermission to accept cash donations to add to our pillows. We hope you will consider making a contribution. Thanks!

A Note from the Director

This show has been an unusual one for us. It is primarily dance-based, so my involvement has been very different than the usual show. Kudos to Leslie Williams for recreating some choreography from the original production, creating her own, and making sure our kids look amazing while performing it. Additionally, Leann Nelson (an LHS alum!) and Audrey Armacost rounded out our choreography for the show, and I think you will be very impressed with the result! Also, the kids sound amazing through the hard work of Mr. Wulf, our Music Director. As always, our orchestra will amaze you as well!

Upon mention of our production, many of my theatre friends raised an eyebrow in disbelief. This is a very difficult production, and few high school's produce this on a yearly basis for that very reason. We felt this one was a good choice for us this year with our particular talent pool.

We are proud of many things at LHS Performing Arts, but what we are most proud of are our students. LHS Theatre is student-driven, meaning that the music you hear is played by students, the sets you will see were built by students and painted by students. The costumes you will see, other than the purchasing of unitards, were hand-painted by students and the "fur" applied by them, by hand, based on their own designs. The wigs you will see were built and designed from the raw materials by students. The makeup was designed and applied by students.

Adults were of course supervising the progress and I want to give a special mention to Jonathan Eberhardt and Heather Clark from the Fine Arts Center for their advice and time with our costumes, hair and makeup crews. Thanks also to D20 for allowing us to use the lift for our production, under careful adult operation and guidance, and to Adam Aragon, building supervisor, for training us in the use of the lift. Also, very special thanks to Mr. Kent McIlhany for training, supervision, and equipment in allowing our cats to "fly."

Finally, thanks to our administration at LHS for supporting our performing arts program and all its craziness!

Enjoy the show!
