Footloose - January 22 - January 24, 2016

Lake Ridge High School

 End Notes

Depending on which decade you went to high school will inevitably have had a large influence on the kind of music that you listened to, danced to, cried to, partied to and even walked down the isle to.  For myself and many who called the 80's their teenage years, the soundtrack from Footloose was popped into our cassette player.
Footloose was revisited by Hollywood a few years ago, reviving some exciting music for a new generation of teenagers to dance to.  The story of the edgy teenager Ren McCormack and the preachers daughter, Ariel Moore and their fight for freedom and change, remains the same.  Having survived the teenage years myself, this story rings as true today as it did in the 1980's and beyond.
An important shift happens in a teenager's life, as they begin to question who and what they believe in.  A "generational" tug of war ensues, as parents and teenagers must open their minds and hearts to allow each other to find their place in the world.  Footloose is about strife and change, but is ultimately about forgiveness, love and acceptance.
Lake Ridge Theatre has spent this past season acting, singing and dancing their feet off (quite literally) to bring this show to you. This amazing cast of teenagers teach me on a regular basis that they can persevere, build, grow and now shine.
I am so proud of each of them!
You have been a true pleasure to work with...aside from the incessant talking....
