Tim Kelly’s That’s the Spirit is a whodunit play filled with quirky and, at times, spooky and bizarre characters. During our season selection process, the Drama Club students shared a variety of qualities they wanted to see in our fall play including that it be a comedy, have lead characters that would allow actors to showcase their personal talents, and include special effects and audience participation. What could better fit that description than a murder mystery comedy with psychics, a wannabe illusionist police officer, a ventriloquist, and even a Hollywood Hills hermit? Audience members beware! Everyone on stage becomes a suspect tonight proving the timeless adage: appearances can be deceiving.
That’s the Spirit has also afforded our company the opportunity to collaborate with one of our school’s exciting eighth grade cycle classes: Whodunit? In this class, students learn a variety of skills such as how to use science and critical thinking skills to solve real-world mysteries. Our Whodunit? students (including some of our very own cast and crew members!) have greatly contributed to our production by penning original mysteries for our community to solve in a school-wide weekly contest promoting our production during the month of November. They have also assisted in the collection of suspect evidence for our lobby installation. Thank you to the faculty and students who helped contribute to this interdisciplinary project!
