This is my third experience with “Little Women The Musical” having directed it at The University of St. Thomas almost seven years ago and performing in it at AD Players about three years ago, this show still charms me and tugs at my heartstrings.  It was suggested to me that once our renovation at the Klein Oak Auditorium began that I should do a smaller musical to make the transition off campus easier.  With a cast of eleven as opposed to the typical thirty or forty person cast, “Little Women” was just that show.  However, I confess that the chance to direct this musical with the extremely talented Klein Oak actors makes me secretly joyful at the inconvenience of traveling off campus.

It has been a rough fall semester.  Among other things, the move out of the auditorium, producing a full-scale fall musical, and producing a Klein Oak Dinner Theatre for the first time made for a number of surprises and challenges.  Circumstances would not allow this school year to be seen through in a familiar fashion.  However, the optimism and resilience of the students put us all to shame.  The second they step foot on that stage they are at home and everything else disappears.  They are the reason we do this.  Louisa May Alcott’s characters will radiate with their spirits, and this stage will ‘shine as brightly as the sun.”
