The Charge: First Degree Murder
The defendant is charged with stabbing his father.
The coroner fixed the time of death at around midnight.
A unique and illegal switchblade was found buried six inches into the victim's chest.
A local storekeeper admitted selling the knife the the defendant and stated it was the only one of its kind he had in stock. The defendant claims he purchased the knife for a friend but it had fallen through a hole in his coat pocket.
The defendant claims to have been at the movies at the time of the murder though the cashier and ticket taker at the theatre have no recollection of seeing him.
Witnesses
1st Witness: An elderly man who lives on the floor below the victim.
Testifies that at ten minutes after twelve on the night of the killing, he heard loud noises in the upstairs apartment that sounded like a fight. He then heard the defendant say, "I'm going to kill you." A second later he heard the body fall, he ran to the door of his apartment and saw the kid running downstairs.
2nd Witness: A woman lives across the street.
Testifies that she couldn't sleep that night, looked out the window into the victim's apartment, and saw the defendant stab his father through the windows of a passing elevated train.
