Director's Notes

I don't know about the rest of you but like Peter Pan, I don't ever want to grow up! Perhaps that is why I love doing what I do and working with young people to hopefully inspire and motivate them through the arts and life. While I sometimes wonder if they are making me older faster, I know in truth, they keep me young. This has been quite a journey we have traveled together in bringing you this show. At times I didn't know if we would make it to this day, but we did and we did it together. From actors making their stage debut to seasoned veterens we came together as a family to support and inspire each other.

This play is a huge undertaking for any company but especially a fledgling one like ours. I can't really tell you what drove us to choose to do this play but I am glad we did. We took risks, we worked hard and we worked as a family and here we are. We have laughed along the way and cried too. Several of the cast members as well as myself experienced the death of a loved one during this process. I know for me, this play and these young people were my salvation as I struggled to cope with the grief and focus on our work at hand. We poured our hearts and souls into each other and into what you see today. This is truly a labor of love.

This is a time for many kinds of good-byes. This will be the last show for our seniors who are graduating high school this year. They have left an indelible mark on my heart, one that will never be forgotten. It is with both sadness and joy that I say good-bye to them and send them out into the world to make their mark on other people's lives. I must take a moment to thank all of the people who have helped us get here today especially my musical director Helen Buttery. This marks our fifth collaboration and I have enjoyed each and every one. We have workd together to grow this company expanding in new directions at every turn offering new and exciting opportunities to our company members.

As always my deepest gratitude goes to my husband who has been my partner in life and theatre for so so many years. Theatre is what brought us together and is such a huge part of our lives. He supports all of my crazy ideas (like doing Peter Pan) and works hard to make my dreams a reality.

When I set out to do Peter Pan I didn't really think it through too much and it has been quite a learning experience for all of us. From choosing a script to choosing a fly company it has all been magical! I am so pleased we have chosen to do this version of Peter Pan that you probably do not know. It is the British version and we love it!! The playwright and his company have been amazing to work with as has Hall Associates our flying company. We hope you enjoy these new songs as well as our in the air antics. We have all had so much fun watching and participating in the flying, such an important part of Peter Pan.

If you enjoy this production please become a fan and come see our upcoming productions. This summer our younger actors, The Overtures, will be doing the musical Hansel and Gretel and our older actors, The Second Stage Players will be performing two more mature pieces, The Reduced Shakespeare Company's The Bible, The Complete Word of God and Christopher Durang's The History of American Film (A Musical). These shows will be performed at the Atlantic Arts Theatre in Jupiter. We will be back at the Borland in December with Disney's Beauty and the Beast!!
