Director's Note
For anyone who has ever felt “different” or “on the outside looking in”, this story is for you. Mulan is a young girl trying to do the right thing to help her father while knowing that her culture does not accept this type of behavior from a female.
The entire story reminds me of the parable of the Prodigal Son found in the Gospels, with a few contrasts. The Prodigal son left his family for entirely selfish reasons and found that life wasn’t just the fun time he thought it should be. Humbled, he returned home and found an overwhelming welcome there for him. Mulan left for unselfish reasons, fought a hard battle and was triumphant, but returned home not sure of how she would be received. She received the same welcome that the Prodigal found.
That’s how our Heavenly Father receives all of us who “return home” to Him. Arms open wide, celebrating his child’s return. Mulan (along with the Prodigal) should be a great motivator for all of us to turn back to our Father and accept His unconditional love.
And now, we don’t want to “keep you guessin’” any longer; so, please, sit back and enjoy the wonderful story of “Mulan”.
