Footloose: Youth Edition - October 18 - October 20, 2024

Jones Middle School

 Notes From The Director

NOTE FROM STAGE DIRECTOR: MRS. BODA

I was particularly drawn to this show because it is so energetic, vivacious and youthful. The show is based on a true story that took place in the small town of Elmore City, Oklahoma, where an 88-year-old ban on public dancing was repealed after the senior class at the local high school challenged it. I loved the idea of sharing this message that kids do have the power to challenge, question, and create change. Footloose opened on Broadway on October 22, 1998, and earned four Tony nominations. It had a revered second life in London’s West End in 2006, starring Derek Hough.

On a personal note, I am passionate about theater and young people. I do this because I love it and love working with your kids. A beloved member of the Broadway community said it best:

“I believe the arts have an impact in a way that just makes the world more beautiful. I really, truly believe in an investment in young people in the arts. It’s an investment in a more beautiful world. We have the ability to change people’s minds and hearts - that’s what we want to do with theatre.” –Gavin Creel
