Ok, confession time: as a teenager, I was pretty terrible to my mom.
It's so embarrassing to admit now, but I was fairly certain that her only mission in life was to humiliate me and she CERTAINLY didn't want me to ever have any fun...EVER. My mom is super young, so we were closer in age than a lot of moms/daughters and, because of this, we often fought like sisters rather than parent/child.
Now? I talk to my mom pretty much daily. I call her for absolutely no reason whatsoever. I tell her everything. We still fight occassionally. But now, when we do, I know that her only mission in life is to protect me, and she CERTAINLY only wants me to have the best life...EVER.
Freaky Friday is such a classic tale of the relationship between a parent and a child...the misunderstanding, the struggles to hear and be heard, and how difficult it is to see from the other's perspective. Obviously, these issues are not exclusive to families. I hope that as you leave today you find that you've not only had a blast watching some extremely talented and hard working teenagers create some great theatre, but maybe--just maybe--you are a little more open to stepping into someone else's shoes and seeing the world from their point of view.
We sincerely hope you enjoy the hard work and creativity of the JV Players. These amazing students are a delight to work with, and we are so grateful for the chance to do so every day! Big "thank you"s go out to Jayme Norfleet for her hard work on all the technical elements, Kimberly Kullberg for giving of her time to make us sound great, and to our special guest choreographer Kaleigh Huser for taking care of some of the bigger dance numbers...my limited choreography skills are so appreciative!
Also, we could not do what we do without the help of our incredible JV Players Parents. Our Booster Club is absolutely phenomenal, and we're so very, very grateful for all that they do to make this possible. Because of you, "we got this!"
Enjoy the show!
