From the Director's Desk
Every year, I look through stacks of plays and listen to many recommendations from students, staff and parents about which plays to do. The goals in the selection process are not simple:
-Challenge the students to try new aspects of this art form.
-Provide a broad scope of literature for students to study during their high school experience.
-Give our students a variety of non-acting opportunities during a production: Set design, costuming, property creation, student directing, etc...
-Offer an audience experience that is entertaining and diverse.
This is always a long, but rewarding process. This year the journey led me to Alice in Wonderland. Surprisingly, most of the students were most familiar with the more contemporary film, that is really nothing like Lewis Carroll's original texts OR the more classic Disney production. My goal was to be as different from both of these as possible, while still creating memorable characters on the stage.
It has been quite an experience for all of us. We have had an abbreviated rehearsal schedule due to the winter weather issues, but the show must go on. Thanks to all who have helped us make this production happen.
Falling down the rabbit hole was a crazy experience, but our students were up for the challenge. They went above and beyond to bring this production to the stage.
Thank your for your support during our journey to Wonderland! Enjoy the show.
