Annie Kids - December 26 - December 30, 2020

Ignite Theatre Company

  Director's Note

I can’t recall a time in recent history when the message of “Tomorrow” has been more relevant, collectively, than today. With a year full of uncertainty, doubt and fear, we could all “clear away the cobwebs and the sorrow.”

On the first day of zoom rehearsal, we talked about the themes of friendship and commitment that we see woven throughout the story of Annie. I asked cast members to tell me what characteristics they thought made a good friend. The words respect, loyalty, caring, and thoughtful were popular choices. The one answer that was represented the most, though, was kind

As kindness is an integral part of Ignite’s mission, my heart swelled to hear so many SPARKs value this characteristic in their friends! After spending six days a week for two weeks on Zoom with these young performers, I can tell you that these young folks embody the word!

We know that children have felt the full effect of this pandemic, bouncing from virtual, hybrid, or in-person school; cancelled extracurricular activities, and the new world of Zoom. The cast of Annie Kids has set all of these obstacles aside to be dedicated, hard-working, and optimistic team members.

I can truly say that with these kids as our future, “when you’re stuck with a day, that’s grey and lonely,” it’s hopeful to know that “tomorrow… you’re only a day away.”
