Director’s Note:
In 2001, the New York Mayor asked the Broadway producers to reopened their shows as soon as possible after the 9/11 attacks to help bring joy and normalcy back to the lives of the people so closely effected by the attacks. The first new show to open in New York after 9/11 was Mamma Mia! just one month later on October 18, 2001. It was literally an overnight sensation and became to hottest ticket in town. The show’s joy, fun, and story that weaved the great ABBA songs together made it just what people needed to overcome the shock and grief of the recent trauma. Since then, Mamma Mia! has had productions open in nearly every country around the world, many with permanent homes that are still playing. It has been translated into many languages and made into a major motion picture. It is the 9th longest running show on Broadway and the longest running “jukebox” musical.
I am extremely proud of this production and the growth that each member of the cast has exhibited in the rehearsals and performances.
It takes a lot of people behind the scenes to make a live show happen. First, thank you to the very supportive Hillcrest administration for providing the opportunity this performance.
Thank you to the custodial staff for all your help and support.
Thank you to all the Hillcrest Faculty for you understanding, grace, and patience with all the students.
Thank you to all the parents for your understanding to the long and late rehearsals in order to create this amazing show.
A good creative team is like sharing the same brain, yet, with beautiful differences. Amanda, Jenn Aedo, Mike, Greg, and Jenn Webb, what a pleasure it has been to go on this journey and create this world with you. Thank you all for your creativity and supportive collaboration.
Anyone who does theater knows that the schedule and commitment can be very overwhelming and taxing on relationships, especially the family. I am so grateful to my family for their often late-night help and to my ever-patient wife for the physical and emotional support and all the work you do to help me. I love you.
Seniors, GET AT THAT WORLD!
