Grumpy Old Men - January 13

Highlands Little Theatre

 Director’s Note

Welcome patrons of Highlands Lakeside Theatre to our production of Grumpy Old Men, The Musical. We have had a ton of fun producing this funny and heartwarming production. We are excited to bring Wabasha to the stage and have many people to thank for making this production a reality.

First we would like to thank Nu-Hope of Lake Placid Thrift Store for their generous contributions not only to our show, but the wardrobe department. In addition, we would like to give a special thank you to Tom and Bonnie Crutchfield for the velvet costume piece donations used in our last scene. We also would like to thank our cast members for bringing in their snowy best!  We'd like to thank the family of our cast member Christie Karr, for supplying us with ice fishing poles and Kevin Hacker for providing us with “The Green Hornet”. The McPhail family has also assisted in helping us dress our set with many props and signs. We would like to thank Gary Johnson for his specialty project in this show, the snowblower. We want to thank our awesome cast and crew for assisting with our set. A special shout out goes to our assistant director Rhonda Wilson for assisting at each set construction, helping with props and other projects, and basically saving the day on a daily basis. Hannah Summer, our amazing set artist, worked on several fun and challenging projects including the “statue” that you will see in the show. A big shout out goes to Larry Moore and Elise Chaisson for stepping up to help with our props (there are over 100), and to Larry for helping to make Ariel’s house more visually beautiful. Special thanks to Ted Bullens for helping out wherever we needed him!

Wabasha has a lot of moving pieces, so we would like to thank our amazing stage manager Jackie Johnson, and our stage crew: Abby Chambliss, Mattie Bond, Debi Robertson, Bob Jarvis, Harper Schuknecht, Hadley Hathaway, and M Spack. In addition, our costume designers Kris Juve and Rachel Moore have worked diligently to dress our cast for several days of icy climate. Their attention to detail is much appreciated. Special thanks also to our choreographer Cassady Hitt, and music director Nelly Ford for making everyone look and sound so great. Thanks to Thor Knutson, Ashur Ferraro, and Val Crow for their work on lights. We would like to thank Gary Johnson and Samantha Goodwin for our sound design. We would like to thank our production coordinator Tom Staik for keeping us on track! We have already mentioned our assistant director Rhonda Wilson, but she rounds out a pretty spectacular production team.

Finally, we could not ask for a more talented or hardworking cast. This is truly an ensemble show, and we are getting to work with many seasoned HLT veterans, and some very exciting newcomers in our show. We faced several challenges bringing this one to our stage, but it was worth the work and the wait. We can’t wait for you to see them bring Wabasha, MN, the fifty year feud, and a whole lot of laughter to life on our stage.

So dear patrons, we hope you enjoy our production of Grumpy Old Men, The Musical!

Thank you,

Mike McMillan and Tracy Schuknecht
