To say that this group of now young adults has been a theatrical dream team is an understatement. Their talents, their leadership, their dedication, their love of their school, and this theater program have made them a force to be reckoned with. Their contributions, immeasurable. Their laughter, unforgettable. Their kindness and camaraderie, palpable and their joy, infectious.
This is a particularly hard group to say our good-byes to. We understand that it’s time for them to move on; and that they have oh so much ahead of them. We are thrilled to have been a part of their lives throughout their formative years. We weathered that dang pandemic together and with a newfound determination, when we came back, these students helped us to bring the theater program to new heights. Gillian, Bob, Rachel, and I (and Phyllis, Wendy & Penny) send them on their way with much love & gratitude.
I leave you with a sampling of lyrics from the Sondheim musical Merrily We Roll Along. This song has been replaying in my head over & over again these past weeks, as I have watched these special kids in action. It’s about them: Our Time
It’s our time, breathe it in.
Worlds to change and worlds to win.
Our turn, coming through.
Me and you, man, me and you…..
…And years from now.
Well remember and we’ll come back
Buy the rooftop and hang a plaque
“This is where we began…
Being what we can”
It’s our heads on the block
Give us room and Start the clock
Our dreams coming true
Me and you man, me and you!
