 Director's Notes

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum  is a Stephen Sondheim classic originally staged on Broadway in 1962 where it won several Tony awards including Best Musical. This Roman farce is one of the most clever and entertaining musicals in Broadway history and has been restaged on Broadway 3 times. Zero Mostel playing the lead roll in 1962 made him an instant Broadway star where he went on to play the lead in the movie version of the same show. It’s second revival had the brilliant Nathan Lane as the lead and he brought the show to a whole new level of fun and craziness.

I’ve been lucky enough to have performed or directed this show 3 times and it’s always been a favorite of mine. With a clever script, wonderful songs to enjoy, a great orchestra and a talented cast, you’ll soon see why I chose this brilliant show as our fall musical. I have no doubt you’ll be highly entertained.
