The Belfry Club, Germantown Academy's theatrical organization, is the oldest high school dramatic club in the United States! It was founded in 1894 by Frank J. Palmer, GA Class of 1885, who also directed its efforts until 1924 and wrote several of
the plays it has produced.
GA's dramatic success continues today. Philadelphia Magazine named The Belfry Club "The 2009 Best High School Theater Program" in its September edition.
The Belfry Theatre Club is award-winning, continually being nominated against larger schools in the Greater Philadelphia Region for CAPPIES (Critics and Awards Program), which is the high school equivalent of the Academy Award. Last year, Germantown Academy won Lead Actor in a Musical, Lead Actress in a Musical, Lead Song in a Musical and finally, best Musical! All awards were for Little Shop of Horrors.
Contributions to the Germantown Academy Annual Fund assist extracurricular programming, like this amazing performance of "Seussical the Musical".
