Ellie Houston
Ellie Houston: It is a name frequently spotted in these Geneseo Community Players programs. It has appeared as everything from a chorus girl in GCP’s 1977 production of Lil’ Abner to the 1998 production of Oliver, where she performed beside Patty Moss. With her unique style of dance elevating the ensemble numbers, Ellie’s summer did not feel complete unless she graced the stage with her presence. She had the special opportunity to work with many generations of Geneseo’s thespians, including the “big names” of GCP including Patty Moss, Alan Case, Dennis Dawson, Phil Bracci, Bettina DeBell, Brian Smith, and her sister, Gertrude Houston. The Houston family was so entwined with the Geneseo Community Players that many times all five Houston children could be seen onstage, while Bob and Judie ran the show from backstage. One of her happiest moments was when Ellie was able to work alongside the next generation of Houston thespians, Felicity and Kate Thomas.
Ellie was moved to tears when in 2007 she was honored for 30 years of theatrical excellence with the GCP. The theatrical community of Geneseo has suffered a great blow this year, losing both Ellie’s comic and ever-present appearances on stage and Alan Case’s beautiful music and supportive nature. But, we know they are telling everyone to “break a leg” from their box seats on high!
