What is The Poe Project?
We--a loosely associated group of people in Grand Junction who do this sort of thing--are The Poe Project.
What started as a humble dinner party with friends to honor Edgar Allan Poe in 2011 grew into a multi-event, week-long (or more) celebration of Poe and his works. The Poe Project has ebbed and flowed the past several years before its current incarnation.
Today, The Poe Project is spearheaded and sponsored by Colorado nonprofit Geek Parties of the Grand Valley. Events throughout the first week of October (usually culminating on Poe's death date of October 7th) include live readings and performances of Poe's works, gallery shows, community radio broadcasts, partnerships with local businesses, and more. We invest in our community by giving a portion of the proceeds from events to local charities.
The pandemic has changed the shape and color of the Poe Project this year, and we thank every participant for their work, all the organizations that worked to make things happen but couldn't make an event materialize because of restrictions, all the invisible people working behind the scenes.
Our many events are staffed only by dedicated volunteers like these, including Rachel Newbold who did our graphics and playbill. If you are interested in joining the Poe Project or Geek Parties, email geekpartiesofthegrandvalley@gmail.com or like our page at facebook.com/poeprojectgj and follow our posts!
