NOTES ABOUT THE DIRECTOR:
Dr. John Lawton Haehl is the Director of the Theatre Arts Program at Gavilan College. He teaches a variety of practical courses including Actor’s Workshop, Introduction to Design, Introduction to Acting, Children's Theatre as well as academic classes such as Oral Interpretation. He directs and designs the Spring production every year at Gavilan College.
Dr Haehl studied for 5 years at American Conservatory Theatre (ACT) Young Conservatory. As an undergraduate, he studied at UC Berkeley, where he earned BAs in English and Theatre. Dr. Haehl received his Ph.D. in 2000 from UC Davis. He has been teaching at Gavilan College since 2006.
Dr. Haehl has served in a variety of capacities in shared governance at Gavilan including Senate President & Vice President, Fine Arts Senator, Co-Chair of the Learning Council, Bond Measure X Steering Committee as well as participating in several hiring and tenure committees. He was awarded the Gavilan College Outstanding Full-Time Faculty in Fine Arts Award in 2020-21. Dr. Haehl is an award-winning costume designer and will be teaching Costume Design (CRN 11872) this Fall at Gavilan college.
