G-Star High School for Media Arts

 Director's Note

Notes from the Director

I am extremely proud of this production. Around this time last year, while we were deep in our production of Peter and the Starcatcher, directed by the amazing Robert Olson, I listened to the students sing and they were good...really good. That’s when I had a funny little thought, why don’t we try a full musical production? I immediately thought to myself, no way, we don’t have a band or chorus; who’s going to teach them to sing? I pushed it out of my mind as a crazy idea.  I am always telling my students to make bold choices, to push themselves beyond their boundaries, and here I was making excuses instead of trusting my instincts. As soon as I opened myself up to the possibility that a G-Star musical was in fact possible, everything fell into place. Magic began. Collaboration started to take place, and people started to show up. A truly successful production involves so much more than what you see on stage.  I’m especially proud of the cooperation, mutual respect, the level of commitment, and the teamwork that has been demonstrated by everyone involved in this production.
