Ivan Rutherford
as Jean Valjean - Columbia Theatre
Ivan Rutherford has performed the role of “Jean Valjean” in Les Misérables over 2000 times on Broadway, national tours and most recently in regional theatres across the country. He was honored with the role during the 10th anniversary company in New York and played the role alongside Andrea McArdle (original “Annie”) at the Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine, and with Lea Salonga on Broadway in the 20th anniversary Les Miz revival. Ivan was also nominated for “Best Actor” for his portrayal of Jean Valjean at the first annual National Broadway Theatre Awards held at the New York Supper Club in NYC. Some other favorite roles include “The Caliph” in Kismet, “Tony” in West Side Story, “Lt. Joe Cable”, South Pacific (Drama-Logue Award and “2nd Officer Charles Lightoller” in the Broadway production of Titanic.

Joel Rainey
as Jean Valjean - GCC
Joel Rainey holds an MFA in Acting from Louisiana State University where he had the privilege of working with John Dennis and Barry Kyle of the Royal Shakespearean Company. Before coming to LSU, he earned a Masters in Directing Shakespeare at Bowling Green State University and also earned a BFA in Acting from Wright State University. A Director, Actor and Producer of more than 100 productions, Joel has had the pleasure of working with such entertainment icons as Paul Sorvino (“Goodfellas”), Terrence Mann (original Broadway cast member of “Beauty and the Beast”, “Les Miserables”) and Gospel legend, Cece Winans. Among his favorite roles include leads in “Evita”, “Taming of the Shrew”, “Sweeney Todd”, "1776", "Carousel", and “Gypsy”. Currently, Joel is the Head of the Department of Theatre at Benjamin Franklin High School. Tonight’s performance is dedicated to his bride Paige for her unwavering support and example that all things are possible with love! I love you sweetheart!
