Thank you for attending Leading Ladies tonight! I am so excited to be directing my first show at Fremont High School, and I'm so grateful for the outstanding support I've received already. When deciding what show to do first, I looked to some advice from my father (another director). He said that I should pick something I'm passionate about, and something that will be very fun to direct. I knew immediately that I wanted to do a show by Ken Ludwig.
I've had the opportunity to both act in and direct Ken Ludwig shows, which are typically farces. A farce is a form of comedy that utilizes a lot of physical comedy as well as the iconic "door slam". Most of these students did not take me seriously when I said that closing the doors would be the hardest part of learning this show. Ask them what they think now!
I love this show, because it centers around a girl who has bigger dreams for her life than what she is currently living. With the help of two women (who are really men), she is able to grow and become the person she has always wanted to be. I want these students to always know that their dreams are worthy of pursuit, and that with the right help, they can become exactly who they were meant to be.
Thank you to the FHS administration, the wonderful office staff, the custodial staff, and everyone else at FHS for all of your support. A special thank you to Mark Harman, Eric Kimberly, and Dan Hays as well. Mr. Harman has been the best mentor for a first year teacher. Mr. Kimberly is a phenomenal assistant, and will continue to be maybe the most important part of Fremont High School Theatre. And last, to my father, Dan Hays and his amazing staff at Midland University. Thank you for the help and the guidance as we begin our journey at FHS, and we look forward to the continued partnership with Midland University's Arts department!
Enjoy the show!
