Mean Girls - May 15 - May 18, 2024

Fort Hamilton High School

 DIRECTOR'S NOTES

MEAN GIRLS The High School Version

Note from the Director:

Mean Girls explores the challenges and complexities of forming relationships, the desire to be accepted, and the anguish one feels from betrayal. It also challenges our reality of bullying and the imbalance of power, peer pressure, and the importance of standing up for oneself and others.

Everyone struggles to find their place in the social hierarchy of high school. Throughout the story, numerous characters make mistakes and confront their flaws. The musical encourages us to be more understanding and compassionate, and to share kindness towards one another. The musical is entertaining and humorous, but it’s also a reflection of our personal experiences, life’s challenges, and successes. It is a reminder to always be true to yourself and to stand up for what you believe.

Special gratitude to our Principal Kaye Houlihan, and AP Mr. Oberle. My collaborators in this artistic effort Mr. Lanaghan, Mr. Stern, Mx. Shields, Ms. Martinez, and my great friend Ms. Lessard. Without their support and guidance, none of this happens. I want share special thanks to my senior drama academy class. It has been a joy working with them over the past months and years.

Enjoy the show!

With respect and gratitude,
William Coulter

This production is dedicated to Robert Lanaghan, our friend and colleague.
