Far beneath the majestic Paris Opera House, the Phantom lives in a shadowy existence. Shamed by his physical appearance and feared by all, the love he holds for his beautiful protégée Christine Daaé is so strong that even her heart cannot resist.
The musical opened at Her Majesty’s Theatre on 9 October 1986 with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman in the leading roles. Now in its 26th record-breaking year, The Phantom of the Opera continues to captivate audiences at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End, after more than 10,000 performances.
We are so very fortunate to be able to bring this modern classic to the Elsinore stage. While a daunting task, it has been a labor of love. I am so proud of my students and their ability to work together to embrace this most challenging show. As performers they have grown beyond my highest expectations, and are a true inspiration. Each performer deserves your highest accolade. It is my hope that you will leave this show tonight, humming the deeply moving melodies – but more importantly, that you will be filled with joy and admiration for the young adults that were able to stir your soul.
I have never been so proud to have the privilege of working with such an outstanding group of students and young performers. They remind me of the deep joy and fulfillment of education at its best.
Enjoy the show… Leslie Vecchione
