Carol Channing was the effervescent and lovable center of  Hello, Dolly! from its inception in 1964.  Playing the role more than 5,000 times, she only missed a single performance - and that was because she was receiving a Tony Award on a show day.  Her longevity in a difficult business and her ability to keep going are inspirational. Carol Channing passed away on January 15, 2019.  

Hello, Dolly! has long been a favorite of ours here at DHS.  The 1994 production was performed on the cafeteria stage.  If you go into the current costume shop,located on the stage, you can still see the paintings that were the Harmonia Garden's featured in Act 2 of the play.  

There is a lot of wit and wisdom in this show.  Great quotes include:

"Money, money, money...it's like the sun we walk under...it can kill or cure."

"99 percent of the people in this world are fools.... and the rest of us are in great danger of contamination"

"The difference between a little money and no money at all is enormous... it can shatter the world!  And the difference between a little money and an enormous amount of money is very slight, and that can shatter the world , too. It's all in how you use it."

"Money is like manure.  It's not worth a thing unless it's spread around encouraging young things to grow. "

Hello, Dolly! celebrates the impulse to take a risk.  Do that thing you have only dreamed of doing.  Tell that person you love that you love them. Take that trip. Try that food.  Do that dance. Say you're sorry.  Life is an amazing opportunity, so live large and exaust every possibility. Do it before your parade passes by.
