Where to begin....
This is my 10th and last three-act production at DVHS. It has been an amazing journey which has taught me much about people, life, and myself. I have seen teenagers enter the program scared and sheltered...afraid to take the risk of self-discovery...and four years later seen them leave the theatre and the school as confident, self-directed young adults. That makes everything worth it.
And what a way to end, with a classic musical that has my actors singing it's iconic songs as they leave rehearsal and throughout the day. These kids have rediscovered the mystery and excitement of 1940's & 50's New York, and have brought the gamblers and their dolls to life in exciting ways during the run of the show. Some of them have even discovered that they CAN sing, which was a news flash to me...and them. My actors and crew have transformed a bare stage and a few dollars into a bustling city with lots of imagination and hard work.
I am very proud of all them, for being flexible with staging and casting changes throughout the rehearsal process. And despite moments of frustration with them, they have brought me many hours of laughter, deep connections, and love. Thank you guys. I will miss you...but always remember...the show must go on!
To Shelly Lewis, who has been my right hand man for half a decade, I thank you for being not only my sidekick, but my friend. I wish you everything good.
Thanks also to my three kids who were all very patient with me as they acted under their mother's direction. I find it poetic that my first show at DVHS was a musical with my oldest daughter, my mid-point was a musical with my son, and my last show is a musical with my youngest daughter. I am truly blessed.
Now, before it all it's too mushy, pull out your dice, open your wallet and get ready to shoot for the top as you enter the world of Sky Masterson and his guys in our production of: Guys and Dolls, Junior!
