It is my privilege to be able to address you this evening as the director of Theatre here at DMS. This is my 9th production here, and with each I grow as a teacher and a director. This particular show represents more than 6,500 hours of combined student work over eight weeks of auditions and rehearsals. The kids who perform for you tonight are a family. They have struggled, laughed, and learned together while discovering the message Victor Hugo left us in his original The Hunchback of Notre Dame, published in 1831. You will hear the theme stated in different ways by different characters tonight:
No one should be humiliated or
made to suffer for being different.
A timely message, I believe, in this polarizing season of political pugilism. Please enjoy this somewhat silly version of a classic. Thank you for entrusting your children to me for this short time. Our collective future is bright.
