Dear Reef Drama Audiences,
When we decided to take on RENT as the Spring musical this year, we knew it would not be an easy feat. The subject matter is raw and emotionally triggering and the music is challenging and complex. But the story is so important. Live every day as if it is your last. Be kind to one another, and don’t forget that no tomorrow is guaranteed.
Like all of you, it grieves me that Jonathan isn't here to enjoy this celebration, but I know he'd be pleased to know his legacy has carried on. Mr. Larson would be thrilled to know that millions have enjoyed his unique view of New York in the early 90's, and be moved by the struggles of his close friends who inspired him. I couldn’t be more proud of the young artists who tackled this project with grace.
I know I speak for every musician, singer, actor, director, music director, choreographer, designer, stage manager, crew person, company manager, usher, press rep, marketer, general manager, producer and more when I assert that everyone who gets to work on Rent grows personally and artistically. Our hearts get bigger, more open. Our minds get sharper. We're better equipped to take care of our children and our parents and our friends and the world. We've learned to measure our lives in love and take no joy or sorrow for granted.
THERE’S A LOT TO CELEBRATE. IT HAS BEEN A GREAT RIDE.
