Greetings! And, get ready, audience members!!
This is the setting you are walking into as you enter the Palm Beach Royale...
A society matron putting on a war benefit for our troops during WWII. Two divas who hate each other on the verge of performing in the benefit concert. Two secretaries trying to keep their divas happy and off their backs. Two bell hops who may or may not be the brightest. A reporter trying to get the juiciest story of her career. And a hotel manager just trying to keep his precious hotel from imminent disaster.
When Mrs. Gunther asked if I'd be willing to direct the spring musical, I was flattered and excited! When she told me I'd get to pick the show too, I was even more thrilled. While reading multiple scripts, when I came upon this one - I knew this was "the one". I knew this was a script the students would enjoy from both an acting and a technical standpoint.
This script is a fun, silly, light hearted farce that; I hope, provides you, the audience, with a sense of joy and a reason for a good belly laugh. These past several years have been stressful for everyone so it's our intention that the audience relaxes and allows the students transport them back to the 1940s. Everything said on stage (in the script) is said with the innocence of the 1940s.
To say that I am proud of these students is an understatement. Comedy is not an easy genre to perform and farce is one of the most difficult forms of comedy there is. It is incredibly fast paced and the timing has to be spot on for the show to be effective. The actors and technicians have been working on this show since January to bring you, the audience, an entertaining evening out.
I would personally like to thank Mrs. Gunther for the opportunity to direct and tell this story. I have had an absolute blast with these students!
I would also like to thank Catherine C and Kristen B for being my right hand ladies at almost every single rehearsal. These ladies have helped me at every turn.
Thank you to Chris Brown for being my assistant director, being on time and setting a good example for the students by wearing shoes and being on time!
Thank you; of course, to my family - for all of their support. My husband, Jason, who helped build the set and made me dinner when I would get home late from rehearsal. My daughter, Claudia, for her incredible hugs. And, my son, James - for listening to me as an actor listens to a director; and not, necessarily, as a son listens to his mother sometimes! :)
So please - sit back, relax and enjoy the show!
