“We’ve got magic to do, just for you!”
Welcome Patron of the Arts,
I would like to share a thought with you. I love theatre. There it is, I said it. I love theatre. I LOVE THEATRE! Many of my fondest memories include stories involving theatre; from performing and working as crew in high school and college to growing up and making my living in theatre to serving as Director of Drama at Chaminade College Preparatory High School. I love the creative process, from choosing a season to casting, production meetings, rehearsals, more rehearsals, tech days, hell week and finally a performance. I love telling a story, becoming part of a company of players and making MAGIC.
The tale we are presenting does just that. A group of players present the story of PIPPIN, His Life and Times; a coming of age story that follows the son of King Charlemagne as he searches for meaning in his life and ultimately finds the answer that was there all along.
I would like to tell you how easily it all came together, but I am a terrible liar. I just can ‘t do it. I can tell you that it has been a learning experience for all and that the journey was definitely worth it. I am incredibly proud of the Chaminade Players, working through players missing due to illnesses, college auditions, and unexpected life moments while striving to please their demanding director.
Our theatrical production requires a village and so, I give thanks to the support of that village, uwhich includes Dan, our dedicated music director, Nancy, our graceful dance drill sergeant, Tarrylee, who lifts us up with her aerial prowess and her awesome team Marissa and James, Mike the mighty TD and his trusty sidekick, Brother Tom Oles, our wonderful scenic facilitator, Tracy who is all that and more, our set designer, Jeff, the lovely scenic artist, Lacey, and our effervescent, production assistant, Morgan. Our fantastic team of stage managers, Jackie, Lindsay, Rebecca, Thomas, and student assistant director, Maeve are a true blessing, as are our impressive producers, Matt, Hannah, Rachel, and Capriana.
Thank you cast and crew for your dedication, focus, and joy! We are so blessed with a terrific crew, highly motivated tech crew heads and a fantastic cast. Thank you, parents for allowing your children to dedicate themselves to this production and for all of your assistance, as well. And thank you, Bishop family, for supporting me in my endeavors with the Chaminade Players. :)
My wonderful Drama Mamas, Sherrill, Beth, and Debra will be graduating along with their children and will be missed dearly. Thank you, ladies for sharing your time and love with Drama. And seniors, this is it—your last Chaminade Spring musical. Thank you for being a part of my life, thank you for your dedication to the Players and always remember how extraordinary you all are!
So, sit back and allow us to take you on a journey exploring magic, merriment, lust, murder, holy war, simple joys, love songs and a short but spectacular show as we head into Pippin’s corner of the sky.
Blessings,
Yvette L. Bishop
