Cinderella on Broadway - April 14 - April 17, 2016

Cape Central High School

 End Notes

In life, we can never see what each day will bring us, or how a week will end or for that matter how a year will go.  Little did the theater department know what adventures we were to have this year as we began this epic season.  Often, we joke about the “Great Dragon Massacre of 2015” or the “Lighting Hijack of 2016”.  We now can sit back and smile on our great victory of taking on competing for the top 2 spots in the state for Mainstage Production with The Hobbit.  Now as we approach the final curtain call of the year we can take a deep breath and look back with pride.

This season we have felt the growing pains of our department.  Tripling in size is not an easy task.  Along with these growing pains it has been an honor to witness these young artists finding their niche in the department and also teaching their new apprentices the trade.  What you see before you is completely created and run by students.  Yes, there are a few teachers backstage but only for safety supervision; they never lift a finger during the run.  This is something we truly take pride in.

Little did I know that a season planned to be filled with fantasies and fairytales, which typically should have happy endings, would be filled with so much personal sorrow and heartbreak.  Little did I know that the hardest time in my life would contain such support and love not only from friends, but from this wonderful Cape Central family!  I would like to thank each of you, no matter how large or small you have helped the program in some way this year and in return have helped me out, so in the deepest sincerity, thank you!

A few months ago I was unsure how I would handle the run of Cinderella.  Seeing little girls in frilly dresses, watching the students make their dreams come true - this all would be a nightmare for me.  How I had hoped to bring my niece to her first live production in a small frilly Cinderella outfit.  How I had hoped to take pictures with the characters at Tea with Cinderella.  How I had hoped to cherish these moments forever.  Now, experiencing the creation of this magical production I can only smile.  We cannot change the past or things that lie outside our physical ability, so because of this I ask that you sit back, relax and enjoy this wonderfully possible production.  Yes, some characters have changed, yes there are a few new plot twists; but never fear there is plenty of magic, singing and dancing, and of course a shoe will be left at midnight.

Allow me if I may, but I wish to dedicate this beautiful story of a strong, independent young woman named Ella to the memory of a beautiful little girl named Ellie.
