Hello, and welcome to CYT’s Winter 2021 Production of GODSPELL!
Receiving the privilege of directing this show was a great gift from the Lord, and I have been so blessed to collaborate with so many people who love Jesus in creating this act of worship to our King.
The verse that I believe captures the essence of this show is 1 Peter 2:9-10, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”
As believers, our life’s purpose is to die to ourselves and come alive in Christ, bearing His image instead of our own, and live from a posture of worship, expressing honor and adoration to the Lord. We are to live our lives as chosen people, declaring God’s praises for what He has done for us and freely receiving the mercy He offers! In GODSPELL, Jesus’ transforming power and love turns a people who, at the beginning of Act 1, cannot stand each other, and are obsessed with their own passions and ideas, into the chosen people of God, united in love for one another and for their King, and singing His praises every chance that they get! This show is a picture of the salvation story that all believers have lived.
GODSPELL reminds me of my grandma, Beth, who moved to Heaven not long ago. She was always praising the Lord, personifying the verse “let all that is within me join and bless His holy name” and would have loved to be in the audience for every performance of this show.
Full of the scriptures and bursting with light, I know GODSPELL will be a gift to you.
As you watch the show tonight, I invite you to experience the joy that comes when you choose to follow Jesus, laying down your previous life, and putting on the cause of Christ, just as each of the characters do! I hope you laugh, feel the urge to dance a little in your seat, cry (sorry, but I do selfishly hope that you cry!) and are moved by the immense talent, effort, and joy the actors bring to the stage tonight, all for the purpose of glorifying Jesus.
