It is with great pleasure that I extend a warm welcome to all of you to "ICONS," the year-end dance recital presented by the Burnaby South Dance Program!
Tonight represents the culmination of countless hours of dedication and effort, both within and beyond the confines of our dance studio. Our talented performers, spanning from grades 8 to 12, bring with them a diverse range of dance backgrounds and experiences. Among them are students from specialized programs such as Pre-Employment, ACCESS, and the International Student Program, where bonds of friendship were forged, and invaluable lessons in teamwork and empathy were learned.
Behind the curtain, a growing crew of over 40 students from our Dance and Theatre Production classes from both Burnaby South & BC Provincial School for the Deaf schools have lent their talents to every aspect of this recital. From stage management to costumes, marketing to props, lighting to set design, their commitment has been instrumental in bringing tonight's show to life. Without their tireless dedication, our performance wouldn't be the success it promises to be.
I couldn't be prouder of the dedication and passion our students have poured into this year's recital. This is my 24th year in the teaching profession and I'm always amazed with their growth as dancers, choreographers, and individuals.
A special mention must go to the courageous staff members who took part in our inaugural staff dance, choreographed specifically for tonight's recital. It was a joy to see roles reverse as our dance students became the teachers, imparting choreography to their mentors. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Ms. Dewar for her unwavering support behind the scenes, guiding our production students every step of the way.
Thank you for coming and enjoy the show!
