 Note from the Director

Welcome to Hadestown!

As the director of this production, it is both a privilege and a joy to present our interpretation of this powerful musical. Hadestown is a tale that delves into the depths of love, hope, and resilience, drawing us into an imaginative world where ancient myths come alive with a modern beat. This story is a profound collaboration of storytelling, music, and emotion, and bringing it to the stage has been a labor of love for everyone involved.

From our first rehearsal, we set out to explore the rich tapestry of characters that Hadestown offers. Together, we uncovered the fears and desires of Orpheus, the loyalty of Eurydice, the passion and power of Hades and Persephone, and the resilience of the workers who dream of a brighter life. The themes of this musical—love versus power, hope amid despair, and the timeless cycle of choices and consequences—have challenged and inspired us to create a unique vision for you tonight.

In the heart of Hadestown lies a reflection on the human condition: the struggle for love, freedom, and identity in a world that often seems unyielding. It is our hope that this story resonates with you, perhaps prompting laughter, reflection, or even a tear. Above all, may it remind you that, like the characters before you, we all navigate life’s highs and lows—and that hope endures, even in the darkest places.

I extend my deepest gratitude to the incredible cast, crew, and creative team who have poured their hearts into every song, scene, and note. And to you, our audience, thank you for joining us on this journey into Hadestown. Your presence tonight breathes life into our performance, and we are grateful to share this story with you.

Enjoy the show, and may the tale of Hadestown stay with you long after the final note.

Some birds sing when the sun shines bright--

Our praise is not for them.

But the ones who sing in the dead of night

We raise our cups to them.
