A Chorus Line - April 07 - April 09, 2022

Boston University On Broadway

 Directors' Note

Nearly fifty years ago, a musical called “A Chorus Line” opened on Broadway for the very first time. It was a show about ensemble dancers at an audition and while the concept wasn’t particularly exciting or “flashy,” the show quickly went on to become one of the most beloved musicals of all time. At its very core, “A Chorus Line” is about all of us and what connects us as human beings— our passions, our shared experiences, our childhoods. Furthermore, the majority of the stories you will hear shared tonight are completely true, based on the lives of actual Broadway performers of the past, many who originated the roles in the very first iteration of this show. “A Chorus Line” remains so beloved to this day because it celebrates people for who they are and where they come from, heralding the lives of those that are often overlooked as worthy of an entire musical. At the end of these next two hours, “A Chorus Line” will draw to a close with what is perhaps its most well-known song, “What I Did For Love.” While none of the members of this cast or creative team were alive during the 70s, nor have lived the exact experiences shared during this show, we all have a deep understanding and familiarity with doing something out of love, and love alone. The individuals involved in this show are not studying theatre but are rather doing this in addition to their course of study, dedicating what extra time they have to this show. We have all come together for the past few months, uniting in bringing “A Chorus Line” to life out of our deep-rooted love and passion for the theatre above all else. We hope the passion and love presented on stage today will be felt by you as you watch each number and each monologue. We hope that it will remind you of the lengths and efforts that one will go to pursue something they truly care about and will remind you just how pivotal every single person involved is— whether they’re organizing props backstage, playing in the pit, cueing the lights, or even dancing in the chorus. Thank you for coming to experience what we do for love.

Enjoy the show,
