Director's Note
As I was looking for a musical for this year, I wanted to find a show that was challenging and different than any other show that the student's had done at Bishop England before. Newsies fit every category, from the challenging choreography to the tight harmonies and complicated character development. Oh! And add difficult accents to the characters! This was one of the most involved and time consuming rehearsal periods for actors and crew members alike and everyone rose to the challenge.
I also love this show because of its message of empowerment to the young generation. We have had several conversations in rehearsals and meetings about how they can impact change by sticking together and standing up for what is right. Our Newsies cast and crew have taken this message and truly "Seize the Day" in all of their scenes and work.
This show could not be possible without the incredible dedication of the production team: Bernice O'Brien as technical director, Thomas Gerber as musical director, Chris Cusack and Tony Colizzi as scenic designers, and Sophie Weiss as choreographer. I feel incredibly blessed to be working with such a talented team.
Thank you for coming to the show and supporting the performing arts at Bishop England High School.
