About William Shakespeare
Shakespeare was baptized on April 26, 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England and died on April 23, 1616 in the same city. He is often called the English national poet and is considered by many to be the greatest dramatist of all time.
Shakespeare's plays are performed frequently because of his dramatic storytelling and use of words. Some common themes in Shakespeare's plays include love, power and politics, identity, revenge, appearance vs. reality, fate and free will, and madness and sanity. His works are often used as source material for Broadway writers. Some of his most popular plays include Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Julius Caesar, Othello, and Hamlet.
