The Fence - July 10 - July 20, 2014

Basin Lake Theatre Project

 Crew Who's Who

  • Colyn G Newton - Stage Manager

Production Stage Manager Colyn Newton moved to Prescott, Arizona late in 2013 and began volunteering in local community theater almost immediately. Following her first assignment as assistant stage manager for the February 2014 production of The Beauty Queen of Leenane, she advanced to stage manager. She is currently receiving technical training in preparation for a number of upcoming productions.

  • Joseph Hough - Lighting Technician

Joseph Hough has been active in local theatre for several years. The bulk of his work has been behind-the-scenes as a light and sound technician. He comes to The Fence following the successful run of Les Miserables. Joseph has made a number of on-stage appearances; notably in last season’s production of Harvey and as the office boy in Red Hot Patriot at the Elks Theatre & Performing Arts Center.

From the Director:

One of my favorite things to do in life is to collaborate artistically. There is little else that brings me the kind of joy I feel than when I work with brave, talented artists ready to dive into a common purpose. In The Fence, Ered’s symphony-like script gave us all an opportunity to draw upon the best in ourselves as both artists and people. Each actor brought his or her “A” game to every rehearsal. We were, no doubt, inspired by the real folks we were portraying who were, in turn, compelled into action by the ultimate sacrifices made by the Hotshots. It must be said that without Ered, who gave himself the task of recording, deciphering and synthesizing hours of interviews, this “symphony” would not be here. I am so grateful for his generosity, talent and trust in me.

From the Playwright:

The documentary style in which The Fence is written is not unique; but quite early on in the creative process it became apparent that there was but a single way to share the story: in the words of those who were moved so deeply. The challenge - would I be able to translate to the page and to the stage those truly poetic moments that occurred during each interview? Would an audience share the same experience of amazement and discovery? I write these notes three weeks prior to the play’s first performance and must honestly say that I do not know. I can only offer that while watching this truly talented company perform their roles during rehearsal I relived those moments and they were no less powerful than when I experienced them for the first time. I could not have wished for a greater gift.
