Directors Notes

I was first introduced to this play in the summer of 1998 when I was a young summer stock actor at the Williamstown Theater Festival. I fell in love with the story and the characters. The messages at times are antiquated, but the themes of love, family, and pursuing one’s dreams are timeless. My hope is that the story and this performance will resonate with you.

I am proud to be but one member of this dedicated and hard working cast and crew. A lot goes into putting together a musical and there are many people to thank for helping me find my sea legs at this school. Paula Johnson, assistant director, was always more than willing to follow through with whatever project needed attention. Dee Christie pitched in overtime to help bring together props and the set. Eric Bushey assembled the pit for our talented musical director, Jacob Oblak. Jacob worked extremely well with the actors and always had a solution for any obstacle we faced; I hope we work together again soon. Vaughn Rock, Steve Wunsch, Mark Capsey built the sets and were willing to do whatever was required. There are many other people that deserve my thanks and I will thank them in person, but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention two students: Emily Osiecki, the stage manager and Skylar Perocchi both BFA Seniors who went above and beyond to make this show happen. They were both extremely reliable and organized. Skylar put together the website and program you are reading right now - all on his own.

Enjoy the show!
