Endurance produces character, and character produces hope. Romans 5:4
ACA Theatre provides an expressive outlet that allows those who participate, whether it be in class or as a cast or crew member, to build confidence, communication skills, and relationships with fellow classmates and directors. The experience that students have in theatre results in them using their creativity to communicate how they think and feel, and allows them to examine their values, behavior, and their relationship with Jesus Christ.
Our verse for this show was taken from Romans 5:4...
Endurance produces character, and character produces hope.
Several times each week, rehearsal began with a devotion relating a moment in the stories of Newsies to a biblical reference. At ACA, students use the influence of the greatest storyteller, Jesus, to communicate a message that goes beyond what is written on the page, and share with the audience in a way that brings glory to God.
The theatre is so often a reflection of Biblical motifs played out on the stage. As our theme at ACA this year has been Build, so is the story of Newsies. The story begins by introducing us to Jack and his caring heart for his friend, which demonstrates great character. The Newsies epitomize a culture of devotion and dedication to their work and each other. In the end, the community rallies together to join the Newsies in their fight against forces of corruption.
The story of “Newsies” is one of redemption, one of setting the captive free, and one of finding homes for the homeless. That’s what Jesus came to do. It is our hope that through our performances the audience will get a glimpse of who Christ came to save - the hopeless, the homeless, the captive, and the slave - all of us who feel just not quite good enough.
I have been so blessed to lead this wonderfully talented cast and crew in presenting Newsies.
God Bless You and enjoy the show!
