A Note from the Director:
This past August I first met the students I would supervise in my new position at the Atascadero Fine Arts Academy and I knew right then and there that I wanted to direct Charlotte's Web for the school play.
I wanted to offer the FAA students an opportunity to be a part of the magic, mystery and imagination wound into this beautiful story. I am so thrilled to bring this timeless classic to life with such an enthusiastic and devoted cast and crew of talented students! Charlotte's Web is the very first play I was in when I was in 6th grade and I loved it. Up until that point the world of theater seemed alluring but inaccessible - fun, sure, but just out of my reach. In many ways this play opened my eyes to the wondrous possibilities of directly working with an ensemble and I first made the art of performance my own.
I wanted to offer FAA students the opportunity to grow in this way and have been happy to do so with this very same play. Needless to say, I learned a lot from both experiences with this show and am still learning, now. I am happy to learn from my students everyday.
Much of this production has been student-run and managed. I have tried to act more as a guide for their own creativity and to direct the choices the students were naturally inclined to try throughout this process. We sure did have a swell time interpreting our characters, putting together the technical aspects of the show and, um, sweeping up the straw!
