Note from the Director:
Dear Friends of Arena Fair;
Our second musical offering for this season is a fond memory of my youth. In 1970 I discovered this work, by Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice, along with the rest of my generation. This concert version of the "Last Days of Christ" was a retelling of a story that we all knew, but in a way that "set us all on fire."
In those days a guitar, bass, or drums were rarely seen in church... rarely did anyone use the phrase, "Jesus is cool."
But now, those ways are standard, and have helped subsequent generations relate to this 2,000-year-old story.
The music is so rhythmic and exciting, I wore out the grooves on my vinyl discs a long time ago. But, it's a thrill of a lifetime to present this show to our audience. If this work is new to you, I hope you enjoy it. If it's an old favorite to you, sit back and pat your knee, tap your foot... sing along.
